The Arizona Cardinals are expected to the worst team in the NFL this upcoming season. Which will set them up with the number one overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This will put Arizona in position to draft University of Southern California’s quarterback Caleb Williams.

On the latest episode of his podcast, Foxworth said, “I would like to prime the entire sports industry for Caleb Williams refusing to go to the Cardinals.”
Foxworth was not saying that the University of Southern California star will do this. Foxworth wants to put this thought in the sports atmosphere so that if it does happen. It isn’t a major shock and the reasons for Williams to do such a thing, are already out there.
The former NFL corner back does not believe in the Arizona Cardinals organization’s ability to do right by Williams. Foxworth also said, “He (Williams) doesn’t deserve that. If he is as talented as we believe he is, we don’t deserve to have that taken from us by an organization that has not proven that they can do anything consistently well.”
Is this possible?
John Elway is a hall of fame quarterback who played his entire career for the Denver Broncos despite being drafted by the Baltimore Colts. Elway made it very clear coming out of college that he did want to play for the Colts. So, how did Elway get out of playing for the Colts?
Elway had options, he could of played professional baseball for the New York Yankees. So, the Colts had to choose between the chance of their number one overall pick playing baseball or trading him and getting something back. The Colts traded Elway to the Broncos.
This isn’t the only example of this. Eli Manning did not want to play for the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers had the number one overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. They drafted Manning but very soon afterwards traded him to the New York Giants.
What would options be for the Cardinals?
The Arizona Cardinals are in a similar place that the Chargers were in when they drafted Eli Manning. The Chargers already had Drew Brees on their roster and still got Philip Rivers in return for Manning. The Cardinals still have Kyler Murray on the roster and could have a contingency plan in place for this.
Ultimately the Cardinals would hope that Caleb Williams does not feel the same way that Domonique Foxworth does. If Williams is the next coming of Andrew Luck or John Elway, he may be the guy who can lead the Cardinals to their first Superbowl win.
There are a lot of things that have to happen before this scenario becomes a reality but it is definitely possible for Williams to say no to Arizona.
