The Phoenix Suns lit up the Dallas Mavericks in the second half yesterday, as Devin Booker scored 30 of his 46 in the second half alone to guide Phoenix to a 132-109 victory.

Most of this damage came in the third quarter, as the Suns (26-18), who were once down 16 in the second quarter, outscored the Mavericks (24-20) 43-20 in the third period. Booker had 22 of these points on 9-of-11 shooting.

Phoenix played excellent defense on Luka Doncic after halftime following a 24-point first half from the Mavericks superstar. Doncic had 10 points on 3-of-9 field goals in the second half.

While Booker and Doncic highlighted the scoring, a lot of this game was extremely chippy.

In total, six technical fouls were given out, including one on Doncic at halftime for arguing with the officials. Grant Williams received two of them and was ejected early in the third period.

At halftime, Suns’ coach Frank Vogel said he told his team that whichever team was more composed in the second half was going to win the game.

This ended up being the Suns far and away, as outside of all the antics, Phoenix shot 18-of-22 (81.8%) on field goals in the third quarter compared to 8-of-24 (33.3%) for Dallas.

Another big highlight in the third that exemplified just how out of hand the game had become for Doncic and the Mavericks is when Doncic asked a fan to be ejected.

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reports that the fan voluntarily left when approached by stadium security.

Devin Booker and Luka Doncic respond to incident

The fan was wearing a Devin Booker jersey and Doncic reached a breaking point when the fan said: “Luka, you’re tired! Get your a– on the treadmill!”

So what did Booker think of this exchange?

“I appreciate the support,” Booker said to MacMahon. “I don’t know what he said; I hope he didn’t cross too many lines, and I’ll be getting his information. If you can find it, let me know.”

“I hope what he did wasn’t too disrespectful, but I know in these crowded environments — we played a playoff series here — I’ve heard countless numbers of things. You usually don’t hear it at home. I’m sure that was a different thing for Luka, but it’s part of the game. I usually don’t let what I hear bother me.”

Doncic had a heated exchange with MacMahon after the game regarding his question to the situation.

Booker shares thoughts on first quarter incident

Doncic was by far not the one leading the charge in antics for the game, it was Grant Williams.

In the first few minutes of the game, Williams stood over Kevin Durant after fouling him, leading to Jusuf Nurkić shoving him out of the way. All three of Williams, Durant and Nurkić received technicals for the incident. Eventually, Williams was ejected after Nurkić scored over him and Williams got in an argument with the officials saying that Nurkić stared him down after the basket.

“It’s unnecessary,” Booker said. “Durant wanted to play basketball tonight. (Williams) just wants to do the antics, man. We’re out there trying to hoop. Big props to Nurk for holding that down. If I would’ve seen it, I would have did the same thing. That’s how we get down, we’re not with the nonsense.”

The no nonsense Suns are not playing around as they have now won seven straight. They next play Friday night in Indiana against the Pacers (24-20) for the second of their seven-game road trip.
