At halftime during the Suns and Clippers game earlier this afternoon, the Suns’ organization and fans took the time to honor the Suns’ all-time great play-by-play announcer Al McCoy as he will officially retire at the end of the 2022-23 season after 51 great years with the Suns.

McCoy’s tenure with the Suns is the longest run by a team broadcaster in NBA history after his first start with the team in September of 1972. McCoy has been around during some bad years with the team. But he has also been around during some great years with the team with the great 1993 team that everybody knows really well coming to mind.

During his presentation, McCoy was applauded by a lot of die-hard Suns fans at halftime and took the time to thank Suns fans everywhere for allowing him to be the voice of such a great organization.

One of the first Suns’ players to congratulate Al McCoy after his halftime speech was none other than franchise player Devin Booker who has been the voice of the Suns all the years since he’s been in the league with the team.

Booker has had a tremendous relationship over the years with the great Al McCoy and he even had a few heartfelt words to say to his friend during a tribute video they did for him at halftime along with ex-Suns players Steve Nash and Charles Barkley.

Al McCoy is leaving a big legacy that Suns fans can cherish for a lifetime. As he steps foot away from the court, the Suns will hopefully look to bring their first Larry O’Brien trophy home. Until then, it’s like Booker said “Even though you’re retiring, you’ll still be the voice of the Suns forever for me.”
