At the 17th annual “Evening On The Diamond” event presented by Crescent Crown Distributing, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation raised $3.2 million in fundraising for nearby communities. The Foundation hosted a paddle raise as well, ultimately raising $1 million for Open Hearts. Open Hearts is an organization that helps those who are in need of emergency housing and other amenities.

During the festivities Saturday night at Chase Field, D’Backs President, CEO & General Partner Derrick Hall stated that the team has accumulated $85 million in charitable impact.

“We care a lot about the community, we love to make an impact in the community,” Hall said. “This is a big year for us because we surpassed $85 million in community giving. We give back more to the community than any of the other local sports teams combined.”

Nearly 800 guests showed up, and singer-songwriter Andy Grammer performed a concert that evening.

Avnet CEO Phil Gallagher received the Lee T. Hanley Community Leadership Award. This accolade acknowledges leaders in Arizona who revolutionize the “landscape of business and philanthropy.”

Reflecting on himself and his team’s efforts charity-wise, Diamondbacks closing pitcher Paul Sewald spoke about how grateful he is to help those less fortunate.

“It’s so important because we are in a situation where most of us are so very fortunate with how things have turned out in our lives,” Sewald said. “It’s just so important to remember where you came from and remember those people who aren’t nearly as fortunate. I think it is a huge part of what we need to be doing.”

Arizona will open up it’s 2024 regular season on Thursday when they face the Colorado Rockies at 7:10 p.m. PT inside Chase Field.
