Fresh from their World Series appearance, the Arizona Diamondbacks enter the 2024 season with heightened expectations, fueled by a bolstered roster and widespread hype.

Bleacher Report’s Opening Day power rankings reflect these heightened expectations, positioning the D-backs in 7th place, with Joel Reuter noting the team’s busy offseason, notably the acquisition of Eduardo Rodríguez to fortify their starting rotation.

Joel Reuter at BR explained, “The D-backs had a busy offseason following last year’s surprise run to the World Series, headlined by the addition of Eduardo Rodríguez to bolster a starting rotation that was a revolving door behind Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly last year. Did they catch lightning in a bottle, or is this team’s contention window just opening?”

Arizona trails only a handful of teams in the rankings: the Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, and, naturally, the juggernaut Los Angeles Dodgers.

Conversely, despite offseason efforts, other NL West contenders, the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants, received less favorable rankings at 16th and 17th, respectively.

In most sportsbooks, the Diamondbacks’ projected win total is set at 83.5, nearly matching their 84-win performance from last season when they entered the postseason as a Wild Card team.
