Gabriel Moreno, known for having the fastest pop time in baseball at 1.83 seconds—a record he set last week against the Rockies—has deterred base stealers all year.
This season, only seven runners have dared to attempt a steal on him, and he has caught four, leading to a league-leading caught stealing percentage of .571.
While Moreno may be struggling at the plate, his emergence as the best catcher in baseball is something the Diamondbacks may not have expected when they traded for him back in the winter of 2022.
Last year, the 23-year-old catcher topped all players with a 3.1 defensive WAR, made only three errors, and threw out 22 runners.
