Pitcher Jordan Montgomery may have been introduced as a new member of the Arizona Diamondbacks, but he will officially start in the minors with their Triple-A affiliate, the Reno Aces, on Sunday.

“Jordan Montgomery threw three innings and 50 pitches in a simulated game today at Salt River Fields,” Piecoro said. “Scheduled to make a rehab start for Triple-A Reno on Sunday.”

Montgomery signed a one-year, $25 million deal with a vesting player option for 2025. The total can reach up to $25 million for 2025 if he reaches a certain amount of starts this season.
In 141 games (140 starts), the 31-year-old has totaled a 38-34 record, 3.68 ERA and 705 strikeouts in 755.0 innings. He has played for the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals.
With this news, his first start in Reno is a major step in the process of earning a promotion to the Diamondbacks’ 40-man roster. There is no exact timeline of how long he will be down with the Aces.
Currently, Arizona’s starting rotation consists of Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Tommy Henry, Brandon Pfaadt and Ryne Nelson. Eduardo RodrÃguez is on the injured list as he is recovering from a lat strain.
