PHOENIX – Sometimes a video of an offseason 5-on-5 is just another training clip. Other times, it is enough to make Phoenix Suns fans stop scrolling. Devin Booker, Jalen Green, and other Suns players recently had Jeremiah Fears on the court during a practice session, even though the 20-year-old guard is a member of the New Orleans Pelicans. Naturally, the immediate question is whether there could be something more behind his presence in Phoenix. There is no indication that the Suns are pursuing a trade for Fears, and NBA players regularly train with teammates, friends, and other professionals during the offseason. But the connection is certainly intriguing.

Fears has legitimate ties to Arizona. Before playing college basketball at Oklahoma, he attended Arizona Compass Prep in Chandler, giving him familiarity with the area long before becoming the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. That background makes his appearance with Phoenix more interesting than a random offseason workout. From a basketball perspective, Fears would be an especially fascinating fit for a Suns roster that has increasingly needed young talent and long-term upside at the point guard position. The explosive guard entered the league with significant expectations, and his ability to create offense could theoretically give Phoenix another dynamic option in the backcourt.

For a team trying to balance competing now with building for the future, acquiring a high-upside young guard would be a major swing. But there is an important distinction between intriguing and realistic.Fears is a recent lottery pick whom New Orleans presumably views as part of its future. Phoenix would likely need to offer significant value to convince the Pelicans to move him.

Still, seeing Fears in a Suns workout creates a fun question for fans of what-if? His Arizona connection could explain why he was there. Or perhaps it is nothing more than NBA players getting work in together. Either way, Fears in a Suns uniform would be a fascinating possibility, and his presence gives Phoenix fans another reason to keep an eye on the offseason.
