PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks fans have plenty to say after the club dropped its three-game series to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday, with many pointing to outfielder Corbin Carroll’s current slump at the plate.

It’s no secret the All-Star is having a tough time offensively, and Tuesday’s loss came with a 0-for-4 night with three strikeouts, continuing a stretch that has left fans increasingly uneasy about one of the team’s most important bats. With Arizona fighting for a National League wild-card spot, every unproductive night from Carroll makes an impact on the lineup.
Carroll’s overall season isn’t what’s being questioned, but rather his latest 15-game stretch, which comes at the worst time possible. The outfielder is batting .189 with 10 hits, a home run, four RBIs and seven runs scored, according to StatMuse.

Tuesday’s loss not only dropped the series for the D-Backs, but also kept them from gaining any ground in the race for the final wild-card spot. This makes Carroll’s slump even more significant, creating a storyline fans can’t ignore while others plead for patience.

However, news broke that Carroll is playing through some discomfort.
According to Diamondbacks on SI’s Jack Sommers, manager Torey Lovullo revealed postgame that the outfielder is dealing with lower back discomfort. While Lovullo anticipates being in the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale, there’s no indication that the discomfort is affecting his swing.
The All-Star has delivered for the club countless times before, using his speed and power to change a game in multiple ways. But his recent struggles add extra pressure on the rest of the lineup.

That’s the source of the anxiety for fans.
It’s not simply about waiting for Carroll to get a hit. It’s about whether the All-Star they believe in can regain his health, confidence and consistency in time to help carry Arizona into October.
