Hamilton has hired Travis Dixon to be the new head coach of their football program. He replaces Mike Zdebski, who stepped down recently. Dixon is a Hamilton alum and was the starting quarterback when Hamilton won a state championship in 2004.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Dixon comes over after leading Eastmark this past season, where he led the Firebirds to a playoff berth in their first season in 4A. They fell to Yuma Catholic in the quarterfinals. The job Dixon did in just one season was remarkable, especially after moving up a division from 3A.
Dixon’s football resume speaks for itself. He went from a state champion quarterback at Hamilton to quarterback and eventual safety at UNLV. After, he started his coaching career with a stop at Hamilton before making his way to Arizona State, Abilene Christian, and then South Dakota School of Mines of Technology. He returned back to Arizona to coach defensive backs at Higley and then from there went to Eastmark.
Zdebski leaves Dixon massive shoes to fill at head coach. Hamilton appeared in the Open Division Playoffs five times under him, and appeared in one state title game, where they lost to Chandler on a missed field goal in 2020.
The alumni aspect was a massive factor in hiring Dixon. This is a massive hire, and it feels like Hamilton got the perfect coach to replace Zdebski as the head coach.
