GLENDALE – The stalemate between the Arizona Cardinals and Jacoby Brissett final has some progression. Arizona started its training camp on Thursday with a majority of people making their return including last year’s QB1 Brissett. The 33-year-old sat out during voluntary camps and barely participated in mandatory minicamp. On day one of training camp, Brissett was a full participator, much to the delight of his teammates.

The four-month wait is not ideal, but head coach Mike LaFleur called the talks now “productive,” as the season opener is eight weeks away.

Brissett returns to training camp:
LaFleur confirmed that the talks are still ongoing following Thursday’s practice. The first-year head coach wouldn’t answer any further about what Brissett’s return met for the quarterback competition, describing it as just practice one of many before September. The top priority for LaFleur entering the first day of training camp for Brissett and other players was to compete, claiming no one wants to reach their peak in July.

Brissett didn’t get first team reps, that honor went to Gardner Minshew. The former Pro Bowler appeared in every offseason workout, and with his history, earned the trust of LaFleur to hold the fort in Brissett’s absence. As the Cardinals coach stated, Thursday was only practice one and there will be plenty of opportunities for Brissett to earn the starting job.
The Hall of Fame preseason game is two weeks away and will be the first indicator of how much the relationship between Brissett and the franchise has grown or deteriorate.
