This move from the Knights comes after head coach Myron Blueford stepped down in December, which left Vaught as the easy replacement to keep everything intact for the football team. He came over after a stint with Chandler as their defensive coordinator. He led the Wolves’ defense to new heights, and he won two Open Division titles with the team as well. He also had the title of Weight Room Coach at Chandler and had the same title at Arizona College Prep.

The Knights’ defense was a key reason they won games this season and was one of the best overall units at the 4A level. He oversaw the development of Cayden Gibson at the defensive end position, who turned into one of the best defensive players in the entire state recently.

The Knights have a lot to look forward to with continuity on the staff. They made the 4A playoffs as the 10-seed and ran into eventual champion Canyon Del Oro, where they lost in four overtimes.

The announcement of coach Blueford’s resignation shocked a lot of people in the high school football community, but with Vaught’s hire the Knights are primed for a potential title run with most of their starters returning.
