According to ESPN and NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Arizona is in agreement that Brissett deserves more money, with both sides working through financial details. Rapoport also expects Brissett to report as a “hold-in,” remaining with the team while avoiding practice until an agreement is finalized. A hold-in minimizes disruption while maintaining leverage, signaling that neither side wants the relationship to deteriorate. For a team preparing for training camp, keeping its quarterback engaged, even if he isn’t practicing, is far preferable to an extended absence.

More importantly, the Cardinals’ willingness to negotiate sends a message about how they view their roster. Teams don’t typically invest additional money in a player they see as a temporary placeholder. Whether Brissett ultimately starts every game or not, Arizona’s actions suggest the organization believes he gives them their best chance to compete this season while providing leadership in a quarterback room that includes younger talent.

For Cardinals fans, this isn’t simply another contract update. It’s a window into the franchise’s evaluation process. Arizona appears willing to back its quarterback with more than words, demonstrating confidence through financial commitment. Whether Brissett ultimately proves to be the long-term answer remains to be seen. But the Cardinals’ approach makes it clear they believe he is the answer for this 2026 season, or at least the start of it.
