GLENDALE – Training camp always creates excitement, but it also reveals an organization’s priorities. The Arizona Cardinals’ decision to place Josh Sweat and Paris Johnson Jr. on the Physically Unable to Perform list immediately grabbed attention, not because of what it says about today, but because of what it could mean for the months ahead.

Sweat’s placement was unexpected after an offseason that already featured speculation surrounding his future with the organization. While Arizona dismissed trade rumors, his absence from most offseason workouts fueled outside questions. Now, with no official injury details released, fans are left wondering when one of the team’s biggest defensive additions will be ready to make his impact.

Johnson’s situation may be equally serious. The former first-round pick is expected to become the foundation of Arizona’s offensive line. Although he participated during portions of offseason practices, his previous knee injury makes a cautious approach understandable. Franchise left tackles are among the NFL’s most valuable assets, and rushing one back in July doesn’t sound like the best move for Arizona’s future.

The Cards also placed Garrett Williams and Tip Reiman on the PUP list, reinforcing that this is part of a broader health-management strategy rather than an isolated concern. For fans, patience is never easy during training camp. Every missed practice feels significant. But successful organizations increasingly prioritize long-term availability over short-term optics.
