Jordan Montgomery turned in another stinker against the Giants, who chased him out of the game in a six-run third inning in a 9-3 loss. After putting up zeros in the first two frames, Montgomery got hit hard in the top of the third with five hits, two of them being home runs. He left the mound to a chorus of boos, as his season ERA rose to 6.80.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!“Another stinker,” a very frustrated Montgomery told reporters, including Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports. Theo Mackie from the Arizona Republic then asked about which of his pitches being sharp last two starts, the veteran left-hander just shrugged his shoulders and said, “I don’t know, everything.”

Over those two starts, Montgomery has allowed 14 runs on 16 hits in just six innings. Eight of those 16 hits have gone for extra bases. In those two starts, the team has given up 19 runs and lost both of them. His start against San Francisco was especially rough, as the Diamondbacks had won the previous four games and were rolling in all phases of the game. By the time his final pitch had been thrown, the air out of Chase Field had been let out and the team trailed 6-1.
“You just feel like a piece of crap every day you show up, team on a four-game winning streak, I feel like every time I go out there, we lose,” Montgomery said to 12News.

The left-hander quickly dismisses the possibility that missing Spring Training has affected his results into the season. Between his ramp-up starts with Triple-A Reno and the major leagues, Montgomery has taken the mound 11 times for the Diamondbacks. That’s well beyond the normal ramp-up you see in the spring.
The Diamondbacks will need to get better starts out of Montgomery moving forward in order to keep their season afloat while they wait for some of their injured starters to come back from the injured list. Arizona is missing Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, and Eduardo RodrÃguez from their rotation, although all three have started a throwing program.
