GLENDALE – The Arizona Cardinals rookie curse strikes once again, as 2026 fourth-round pick Kaleb Proctor is in jeopardy of missing his rookie season. For the past few years, Arizona rookies would suffer a major setback before making their debut. In 2024, it was Darius Robinson, and last season it was Walter Nolen.

LaFleur confirms Proctor tore his meniscus:
Meniscus tears are tricky. The recovery process is quite a wide range and based on the severity. With small tears, a player could do physical therapy for four weeks and be back on the field. However, likely in Proctor’s case, it seems like surgery is needed and could be a minimum of six months.
This is all speculation, but inferred by LaFleur’s pessimism and assuming the worst, the tear could’ve happened in a “red zone”, which is a part of the knee that receives a good supply of blood. A tear in that area of the knee would be six to nine months before return to contact sports because of the extended healing period for the tissues to reconnect. LaFleur didn’t dive further into the details, but him adding in the “hopefully not the whole year” does bring some doubt in a return.

Outside of the Proctor news, LaFleur stated that mandatory minicamp was relatively healthy. While there were bruises along the way, many of the players left unscathed. Coming off an injury-riddled 2025, hearing that report does give fans a sigh of relief, as the Cardinals had the most games lost by a starter via injury last season. The hope now is Proctor’s recovery is without hiccups to get him back on the field for his rookie year.
