PHOENIX — With the NBA offseason starting to take shape, one name continues to linger and be linked to the Phoenix Suns: Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant.

While speculation surrounding Morant has cooled in recent weeks, NBA insider Sean Deveney suggests there could still be a connection between the former All-Star and the Valley.

The Suns enter the summer facing major questions about their roster construction following their first year under head coach Jordan Ott. Phoenix exceeded preseason expectations after trading Kevin Durant and moving on from Bradley Beal, creating a foundation the franchise hopes to build upon moving forward.

One way to accelerate that process could be pursuing a player like Morant.

With the franchise searching for ways to maximize the remaining prime years of Devin Booker, adding a dynamic playmaker like Morant would represent a significant shift in direction.

Morant has proven to be one of the league’s most explosive guards, bringing elite athleticism, relentless rim pressure and the ability to create offense for both himself and his teammates. Last season, he averaged 19.5 points and 8.1 assists while shooting 41.0% from the field.

A Morant-Booker backcourt would give the Suns a dangerous offensive pairing. Morant’s ability to attack the paint could create easier scoring opportunities for Booker while also generating open looks for Phoenix’s supporting cast.

However, that pursuit would also come with risk.

Morant’s time in Memphis has been marked by suspensions that raise questions about his long-term reliability. Injuries over the past two seasons have also kept him off the floor for significant stretches — a gamble for a franchise looking to build on the foundation established this past season.

The Suns are looking to compete now, and Morant’s experience could give them the edge they’re searching for. If Memphis is truly ready to move on, Phoenix could find itself in position to acquire a player who was once viewed as one of the league’s brightest young stars.

Whether Phoenix ultimately pursues a deal remains unclear. But if Morant becomes available, the Suns could have an opportunity to acquire one of the NBA’s most talented guards at a time when the organization is looking to take another step forward.
