The Diamondbacks struck first with a two-out RBI from Lourdes Gurriel Jr., driving in Corbin Carroll. However, the Giants quickly responded, opening the floodgates moments later.

Jordan Montgomery, who had cruised through the first two innings, failed to record an out in San Francisco’s explosive third inning. The trouble began with a single, followed by a two-run homer that gave the Giants the lead. A single, a walk, and another single loaded the bases for Wilmer Flores. Despite entering the game with just one home run this season, Flores connected for a grand slam on a curveball that caught too much of the plate, making it a 6-1 game and marking the end of Montgomery’s outing.

Montgomery was booed off the mound as he exited, with his home ERA this season now standing at 9.00.

The Diamondbacks had an opportunity to respond in the fourth inning, but Lourdes Gurriel Jr. grounded out to first base, stranding the bases loaded.

After Pavin Smith connected for a solo shot to make it a 6-3 game in the 6th, it looked as if San Francisco would break things open even further. However, Bryce Jarvis, coming in with the bases loaded and nobody out, somehow got the Diamondbacks out of the inning unscathed.

Jarvis forced a couple of groundouts resulting in outs at home, followed by a fly ball to end the inning.

Despite Jarvis’s efforts, the deficit from Flores’ grand slam in the third inning proved too much for the Diamondbacks to overcome. The bottom half of Arizona’s order went 1-12 at the plate, with Eugenio Suarez particularly struggling, striking out in all three appearances. Suarez is now 3-31 over his last few at-bats, causing his season batting average to drop to a new low of .204.

San Francisco extended their lead in the 9th inning with a couple of runs off Brandon Hughes, making it a 9-3 game.

The Diamondbacks will now head on the road for a three-game series against the Padres starting on Thursday at 6:40 pm. The D-backs are currently in the midst of a 12-game stretch without a day off, with their next break not until June 10th.
