GLENDALE – Arizona Cardinals rookie Carson Beck takes a mature look towards upcoming quarterback competition. With the end of mandatory minicamp, players will have a 40-day break before training camp and the start for head coach Mike LaFleur to find his QB1. Brissett sitting out for a new contract makes the decision much harder. The holdout gives Gardner Minshew and Beck a real shot of earning the spot.

Beck on upcoming QB battle:
Coming from collegiate programs like Georgia and Miami, Beck has the perspective of coming from environments where winning is the pinnacle. The 24-year-old is committed to winning, sitting out his first three years of college football to remain in Georgia under Kirby Smart. He preaches valuing a system fueled by winning and continues that trend under LaFleur in Arizona.

Even with Brissett out, Beck has been getting second-team reps, as veteran Minshew has gone with the starters. Minshew is a pro bowler and seven-year pro and understands NFL-level schemes better. Despite playing second-fiddle, Beck remains committed to competing and playing his role for the betterment of the franchise.
LaFleur stated earlier in the week that he hasn’t even thought about the quarterback competition, seeing its June and not September. A determined Beck could come into training camp gunning for that starting role, but if his interview is anything to based off his mentality, he’s more focused on cultivating an environment that nurtures winning and not jealousy.
