GLENDALE – The biggest controversy surrounding college football is the Brendan Sorsby dilemma. The newly-transferred Texas Tech quarterback is in headlines for gambling on Indiana football when he was on the team, which is against NCAA rules. Sorsby admitted to gambling but still looked to appeal the NCAA’s decision to ban him for the 2026 season, but that was denied as well.

The 22-year-old finds himself with his stock at his lowest, but NFL reporter Albert Breer sees this as the perfect opportunity for the Arizona Cardinals and other teams to take a swing on Sorsby in 2027 NFL Draft.

Breer believes Cardinals should consider Sorsby:

The Cardinals currently have questions of their own, with Jacoby Brissett holding out on a new deal. Garner Minshew and Carson Beck remain the two possible Week 1 starters for the 2026 season, but neither feel like long-term options for the franchise. Arizona has plenty of holes on its roster, including quarterback. However, the team could wait to use a late-round pick on Sorsby, who was projected to be a first or second-round talent.

In 12 games his senior season at Cincinnati, Sorsby threw for 2,800 yards for 27 touchdowns and only five interceptions. He led the Big 12 in QB rate and yards per competition. One more year at a school like Texas Tech could’ve rose his draft stock immensely, but this drama could be the end of his football career. Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort isn’t known for taking on riskier prospects like Sorsby. But, if the team overachieves next season and misses out on the top QBs in the 2027 draft, Sorsby could be a name to look out for just in case.
