Just as his debut with the Valley Suns was getting underway in the NBA G League, Phoenix Suns two-way guard Collin Gillespie sustained a serious injury that will keep him out for at least a month.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!In the Valley Suns’ first-ever game as a franchise, Gillespie suffered a right ankle fracture early in the first quarter and did not return in the 133-118 loss last Friday to the Santa Cruz Warriors, the G League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors.
The Phoenix Suns issued a statement on Gillespie’s injury:
“Phoenix Suns guard Collin Gillespie will be out with a right ankle fracture. He will be re-evaluated in four weeks,” the press release said.
Gillespie scored five points from his first two shot attempts before leaving the game.
Listed as out with a right ankle sprain against the Sacramento Kings, Gillespie sat on the bench while wearing a boot in the Phoenix Suns’ 127-118 loss in overtime on Sunday.
Going undrafted out of Villanova in 2022, the Pennsylvania native signed as a free agent with the Denver Nuggets that year.
Splitting time between the Nuggets and their G League team, the Grand Rapids Gold, over the past two seasons (2022-24), he made his NBA debut last year and played 24 games. He averaged 3.6 points, 1.1 assists and 0.9 rebounds per game. Gillespie became an NBA champion in 2023 when the Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat, 4-1.
This season, Gillespie has played one NBA game with the Phoenix Suns, scoring a 3-pointer in the 114-102 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Oct. 26.
