With time flying and there being just four games for the Phoenix Mercury remaining in its 2024 regular season, the team has re-signed guard Amy Atwell to her second seven-day contract.

She originally was on a training camp contract with Phoenix back on April 4 and played during the team’s preseason, but was waived before the regular season began. In the two games for the Mercury under her first seven-day deal, the Australian averaged 1.0 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 8.2 minutes player per game.
With Allen ruled out for the 2024 Paris Olympics with a right hamstring injury, Atwell was promoted to Australia’s roster who won the bronze medal. Allen remains out but has been participating in practice.
The University of Hawaii product was selected by the Los Angeles Sparks with a third-round (No. 27 overall) pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft. She would play in four games as a rookie, averaging 0.8 points, 0.5 assists and 0.5 rebounds per game. Los Angeles waived her on June 7, 2022, and didn’t appear in the league until the Mercury faced the Washington Mystics last Thursday, Sept. 5.
Atwell and Phoenix will be back in action on Friday when the Mercury clashes with the Connecticut Sun at 7 p.m. PT inside Footprint Center.
