Most players avoid creating headlines like that, but Brooks has never been most players. Luka Dončić immediately came to his mind first, but the big names didn’t stop there. Then came Stephen Curry, LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo, four of the best talents in the league, and some of the most respected players in basketball, and future Hall of Famers.

His explanations reflected the perspective of someone who spends every possession trying to frustrate elite scorers. He recalled physical battles with Curry and his belief that Giannis works early to influence officiating and matchups. Whether fans agree with him or not doesn’t matter to Brooks, and that is exactly who he has always been. Naturally, his comments will divide opinions. Some fans will see unnecessary trash talk aimed at NBA royalty. Others will view it as refreshing honesty from a player unafraid of challenging the league’s biggest names.

The Suns have spent recent seasons searching for a tougher competitive identity, especially in postseason basketball where physicality and mental resilience often separate contenders from pretenders. Brooks doesn’t just embrace confrontation; he invites it. His confidence, swagger and willingness to become the league’s villain can energize teammates while taking pressure off Phoenix’s stars. What isn’t debatable is the cultural shift that Brooks has brought to the Valley. If Phoenix keeps developing the fearless, physical identity Brooks embodies, his boldest statements may ultimately matter less than the mindset they represent.
