After the game against the New York Knicks that night, there will be a postgame ceremony for Marion and his accomplishments as a Sun.
Selected in the 1999 NBA Draft, Marion was 9th overall in the first round after playing a season for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
Then, Marion would play eight seasons for Phoenix from 1999-2008.
In 660 games for the Suns, Marion averaged 18.4 points, 10 total rebounds and had a 0.446 field-goal percentage.
Marion was part of the trade to the Miami Heat that sent center Shaquille O’Neal to the valley in February of 2008.
After spending time with Miami, the Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks, Marion retired after his one and only season with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015.
There is no particular reason why this ceremony will be on Dec. 15.
But, Marion did score 39 points against the Knicks on Jan. 2, 2006 and that’s his second most amount of points in a game during his career.
Suns legends, former teammates and family members will attend the celebration as Marion will become the 16th inductee in franchise’s history to go into the Ring of Honor.
