According to John Gambadoro at AZSports, the Arizona Diamondbacks will have Geraldo Perdomo back for their series opener against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. Gambadoro noted that the D-backs will make a corresponding move, but it will not involve Eugenio Suarez.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Perdomo has been out of the lineup since April 3rd due to surgery to repair a torn meniscus. The 24-year-old played in just seven games this season before heading to the IL.
Last year, Perdomo reached the 100-hit mark for the first time in his career, scored 71 runs, and posted a .712 OPS. He also attended his first All-Star game.
In Perdomo’s absence, veteran Kevin Newman has primarily filled in. Newman was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds prior to this season.
With speculation from Bob Nightengale at USA Today that the Diamondbacks might move on from third baseman Eugenio Suarez, the team could shift Newman to the hot corner, with Perdomo returning as the everyday shortstop.
Perdomo recently played four games with the Reno Aces as part of his rehab assignment. In those games, he went 2-for-14 at the plate but did not strike out once.
The first pitch for Arizona’s series opener against the Angels is set for 6:40 PM at Chase Field on Tuesday. Jordan Montgomery is expected to take the mound for the Diamondbacks. At home, Montgomery has struggled this season, recording an 8.46 ERA across five starts.
