Early into the 2024 season, Phoenix’s Diana Taurasi and Kahleah Copper have been among the best shooters in the WNBA.

Through five games, Taurasi leads the league in 3-pointers made, sinking 19 on the young season. Right behind her is Copper with 18 triples — tied for second with Caitlin Clark.

Taurasi is shooting 40.4% from beyond the arc on 9.4 attempts per game, while Copper is shooting 48.6% on 7.4 attempts per game. Phoenix is currently the league’s most efficient high-volume shooting team, in large part due to the contributions of Taurasi and Copper.

“It’s not easy to be in this league, it’s not easy to sustain a high level of play,” said Taurasi. “[Kahleah] has been doing that for years now, so that’s a credit to her, her hard work. Sometimes it’s nice to take a step back and be like, you know what, I am doing it…That’s a testament to [Kahleah], and everything about her.”

Copper is just beginning her ascension to true stardom. A former WNBA Finals MVP, Copper is having her best season yet with the Mercury, averaging 29.2 points per game. On the flip side, Taurasi is in her 20th season in the WNBA, averaging 19 points per game.

“[Diana] probably has more basketball behind her than in front of her, so it’s our job to continue to add to her legacy,” said Copper. “And what we want to do is win. We want her to go out, whenever that is, with a bang.”

Mercury’s winning streak snapped at 3, Arike Ogunbowale scores 40 points in 107-92 defeat to Wings
