GLENDALE — With Arizona Cardinals rookie Carson Beck nursing a back injury, head coach Mike LaFleur says he’ll wait to provide an update on the quarterback as the team evaluates his status for the upcoming week.

Beck’s injury first surfaced Thursday, when he left practice with back spasms. LaFleur said Friday that the issue was not expected to be long-term but wanted to get the rookie off the field. Beck then missed practice Friday and was inactive for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, serving as the emergency third quarterback.

“I’m not going to talk about role changes right now, but I’ll know more tomorrow,” LaFleur said Monday, according to PHNX’s Bo Brack. “[Beck is] going to do a workout tomorrow on our off day, just to kind of move it in the pocket and stuff like that to see where he is in terms of, I guess you could say, rep structure…”

LaFleur said the workout would help determine Beck’s readiness for practice and how the team could structure his workload throughout the week. The coach declined to discuss potential role changes, leaving questions about Beck’s future involvement unanswered for now.

Jacoby Brissett, meanwhile, will remain the team’s starting quarterback as it looks to turn its season around.

Arizona continued its turbulent year Sunday, falling 30-16 to Denver at home for its third straight home loss of the season. The loss dropped the Cardinals to 2-5, adding to the pressure on a team searching for answers amid its struggles.

LaFleur appears intent on letting Beck’s physical condition dictate the next steps rather than rushing a decision about his role. Tuesday’s workout should provide a clearer picture of the rookie’s status heading into the team’s next practice Wednesday.

With the Cardinals trying to get back on track, Beck’s health and the team’s quarterback situation remain key storylines heading into the next game.
