Busch’s death was announced Thursday, prompting an outpouring of reactions from fans across Arizona who reflected not only on his accomplishments, but also on the atmosphere he created whenever the sport came to the desert.
For many, Busch represented the intensity, passion and authenticity of NASCAR both on and off the track. Whether he was battling for a win or interacting with fans during race weekends, his personality became part of the identity of NASCAR events in the state.
Many Arizonans have shared appreciation for the memories Busch created during race weekends in the Valley.

Busch was a frequent competitor at Avondale’s Phoenix Raceway. His NASCAR Cup Series victories at the track included the Can-Am 500 in 2018 and the TicketGuardian 500 in 2019.
In 2019, Busch dominated the desert weekend by sweeping both the NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series races. In 2018, he won the Cup Series playoff race to secure his spot in the Championship 4. Busch also earned his first Cup Series victory at Phoenix Raceway in 2005.
