If tonight was Zac Gallen’s last night pitching for the Arizona Diamondbacks, it would surely be an unfortunate ending, as the grand slam he gave up to Fernando Tatís in the bottom of the fifth was the massive that dagger that helped end the Diamondbacks’ postseason dreams.

Gallen, who was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks from the Miami Marlins back in 2019, has slowly become one of the faces of the franchise and was in Cy Young contention during the Diamondbacks’ 2023 World Series run. He became a staple in their pitching rotation and was viewed around the league as one of the top starting pitchers. Although Gallen had a down year in 2025 so much so that his trade value vanished in one of the top free agents was no longer sought after.

The door isn’t shut on a reunion with the Diamondbacks as Gallen now enters free agency. Gallen’s agent, Scott Boras, is known for having his clients enter free agency and see every opportunity. Boras also represents the D-Backs’ newest starting pitcher, Corbin Burnes. Whatever happens in Gallen’s future, “The Milkman”, as some D-Backs fans call him, will surely be one of the legends remembered not only for his talents during the World Series run. Gallen’s leadership and voice, and proving it on and off the field, have shown why he was one of the best Arizona has seen.
