Brandon Pfaadt had not only a stellar outing on Wednesday afternoon but also didn’t allow a hit until the top of the sixth inning when Giants CF Drew Gilbert hit a single to right field. It was a pure pitchers’ duel between Brandon Pfaadt and Justin Verlander, as Pfaadt only allowed one hit in nine innings with seven strikeouts.

Having a starting pitcher that keeps the D-Backs in contention is one thing, but going deep into crucial matchups late in the season is another. Limiting the usage of the bullpen will be paramount if the D-Backs want to perform well in the MLB postseason.
D-Backs fans react to Brandon Pfaadt’s start:

The D-Backs were attempting to not only get a victory on Wednesday, but sweep a team that is fighting for an NL Wild Card spot as well. Although the bats weren’t able to come alive, the consistent bullpen problems were on display, and the D-Backs were defeated in extra innings by the San Francisco Giants. If the Diamondbacks aren’t able to capitalize on these phenomenal performances from their starting pitching, it will be a tough time having any success, let alone making a playoff run. Arizona must avoid these close matchups that could leave them on the outside looking in.
