GLENDALE – Months after his firing, Jonathan Gannon spoke about his time with the Arizona Cardinals. The new Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator spoke with the media on Monday following the NFL draft about his thoughts for next season. However, before addressing the future, Gannon discussed his past in the Valley. The 43-year-old remained cordial about his tenure with Arizona and had nothing but positive things to say.

Gannon on his time in Arizona:
“Grateful for the opportunity. Met a lot of great people, formed a lot of good relationships there and learned a lot just with being in that seat. Coming here in this role, you try to take some of those things you learned and apply it as much as you can to your new role.”

Gannon always had a calming personality and obviously is going to remained in good spirits despite the harsh exit. However, losing the job to your new boss’s brother is an interesting dynamic. Matt and Mike LaFleur become the second brother coaching duo in the NFL, next to Jim and John Harbaugh. Gannon will be under Matt in the defensive coordinator role, a job he hasn’t done since 2022.
Since becoming a head coach, Gannon hasn’t been a play caller offensively or defensively. Those roles went to Drew Petzing and Nick Rallis respectively. In Green Bay, with Matt calling the offensive plays, Gannon will have the responsibility of calling defensive plays. His last opportunity to fulfill that role was in 2022 with the Philadelphia Eagles, when they made it to the Super Bowl.

The hope is he can return to those heights with the Packers and move pass the failures as the Cardinals coach to rebuild his status in the NFL world.
