For a player known as much for his cool demeanor, Booker showed rare anger as he addressed a technical foul he received in the second half after attempting to save a ball from going out of bounds — one he believes was misjudged. Booker believed the technical was influenced by Thunder guard Alex Caruso, who immediately made the technical foul signal following the play before it was subsequently called.

While players are typically fined if they criticize referees in postgame press conferences, the Suns star didn’t hold back and voiced what he believes needs to be addressed.

“In my 11 years, I haven’t called a ref out by name, but James [Williams] was terrible tonight, through and through,” he said, according to NBA writer Tomer Azarly. “It’s bad for the sport, bad for the integrity of the sport.”

For a player of Booker’s caliber, who usually lets things slide and rarely calls out a referee by name, it’s a sign that Phoenix is not satisfied with how the games are being officiated. Other players on the team have had their fair share of issues with referees, but this is one of the rare moments in the All-Star’s career that he has shown this level of frustration.

With the Suns now down 0-2 in the series, they find themselves not only navigating a competitive matchup but also managing an emotional edge as their leader speaks up. Booker’s comments won’t just result in a likely fine, but could also put officials under the spotlight for how they handle the rest of the series.

“I know I haven’t won a championship in this league, but I have been in it for 11 years now,” Booker said. “So to get to this point to be treated like that, for me to even be saying something out loud, it’s bad.”

This is a pivotal moment for Phoenix. Whether Booker channels that frustration into performance or it becomes a lingering distraction could shape the trajectory of the series.

The Suns return home to host the Thunder for Game 3 on Saturday, April 25, at 12:30 p.m.
