GLENDALE – Arizona Cardinals backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett had a day to remember on Sunday. The 32-year-old threw for 320 passing yards and two touchdowns in the 31-27 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. During his postgame press conference, Brissett stated he obviously wanted to lead his team to a win, but he felt good under the play calling of offensive coordinator Drew Petzing.
The pair were together with the Cleveland Browns in 2022, as Petzing was the quarterbacks coach. Sunday’s game was Brissett’s first game as a starter for the Cardinals, but it was just another game for him and Petzing, who’s chemistry paid off big time.

Brissett on how his relationship with Petzing led to success:
“Being with Drew, and voicing what I wanted earlier in the week [and] what I don’t like and us just bouncing ideas off on the sideline, I think that connection that we’ve had since Cleveland it showed a little bit today. We were on the same page.”

The duo were bouncing off ideas with each other all week and even during Week 6, as Brissett stated that Petzing knew exactly what plays he wanted. The comfortability between the two led to an increase amount of pass attempts, as Brissett threw the ball 44 times, the most by Arizona all season.
The loss stings, as the franchise falls to 2-4 for the season. Despite that, and starter Kyler Murray’s injury status unknown, Arizona’s offense can release a little sigh of relief by how the first game with how well the pairing of Brissett and Petzing performed.
