PHOENIX — After a historic win on opening night, the Phoenix Mercury looks to carry momentum into Wednesday’s matchup as it hosts the Los Angeles Sparks.

The Mercury dominated against the Seattle Storm, winning 81-59 through an offensive onslaught and key defense. Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas combined for 47 points against Seattle. Thomas added seven rebounds and six assists to keep Phoenix ahead the entire game.

Sparks Look for a Rebound

The Sparks come off a loss against the Minnesota Lynx on May 18, 89-75, going 1-1 in the season so far. Guard Kelsey Plum, who was traded to the Sparks from the Las Vegas Aces, leads the team in scoring. She’s averaging 27.5 points, 48.5% from the field, and 46.7% for three. Forward Dearica Hamby has been the force in the Sparks’ defense, averaging 10 rebounds per game.

Phoenix and Los Angeles last met on Sept. 17, 2024, where the Mercury took an 85-81 win in a close battle.
The two West Coast rivals will battle again on Wednesday, May 21 at 7 p.m. at PHX Arena.
