Suns fans upset over Bradley Beal bobblehead giveaway: wrong time, wrong player

PHOENIX — On what should have been a celebratory Fry’s Fan Appreciation Night at Footprint Center, many Phoenix Suns fans arrived at the arena more frustrated than thankful.

The source of the ire? A Bradley Beal bobblehead giveaway to be handed out postgame to the first 5,000 fans in attendance for the team’s final home game of the season.

The gesture, meant to show gratitude to the fanbase, has instead sparked a wave of online backlash and groans in the stands. With the Suns closing a disappointing year — currently on an eight-game losing streak and officially eliminated from playoff contention — many questioned why Beal was chosen as the face of fan appreciation night.

“I have to wait until the game is OVER to get a BRADLEY BEAL bobblehead?” one fan posted on X. “Keep it.”

Beal, who was acquired last offseason in a high-profile trade, played just 52 games this season due to various injuries and has averaged 16.9 points per game — his lowest scoring average in nearly a decade. His inconsistency and availability have led to ongoing debates among Suns faithful about his fit alongside Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, especially as the team failed to meet preseason expectations.

Some fans argued that the giveaway should have featured Booker or even Durant, who’ve both played significant roles throughout the year. Others even suggested the team focus on community favorites rather than the often-sidelined star.

While team promotions are typically planned months in advance, the optics of Friday’s giveaway didn’t land well in the current climate.

Fan Appreciation Night is usually a moment to thank those who stuck through the highs and lows. Instead, it may have added another misstep in a season full of them.
