PHOENIX – Phoenix Suns remain busy with an underrated signing to fill one of their three two-way spots. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Thursday that the franchise has signed former Golden State Warriors guard Pat Spencer to a two-way deal for the 2026-2027 season. The 29-year-old is the first two-way player signed and becomes a serious player on next year’s roster.

The third-year guard had his best season yet last year, averaging a career high in points (7.2), assists (3.5) and rebounds (2.4). Spencer emerged as a serious rotational piece for Golden State throughout the season, and he has the same opportunity in Phoenix.

Phoenix bring in Spencer on two-way deal:

His first two years with the Warriors saw little impact, and that continued through the first two months of last season. However, in the beginning of March, Spencer had five straight games of 12+ points, finishing that five game stretch with 15.2 points and 5.4 assists on 57.1% three-point shooting. Despite the production, Spencer couldn’t crack the rotation until injuries in late January open the door for the 6’2 guard.

From February to the end of the season, Spencer became a permanent part of head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation and played in 32 straight games. In 24.0 minutes per appearance, he recorded 9.4 points and 4.2 assists on 35% from 3 on 3.7 attempts.

Spencer emerged as a respectable backup point guard and earned another deal to remain in the NBA. The Suns will be hoping they can turn Spencer into another Collin Gillespie, making another team’s two-way guy into a serious part of the team’s identity. His age and lack of size makes his on-court growth stunted, but he provides nice depth for a roster that was lacking another ball handling guard.
