GLENDALE – For Arizona Cardinals fans, this isn’t just another personnel change. Players come and go, coaches get hired and fired, and front-office executives change. But for nearly a quarter-century, one constant remained of play-by-play commentator Dave Pasch’s voice narrating every touchdown, comeback, and unforgettable Sunday. Although the era will come to an end as Pasch will be leaving to join ESPN.

That consistency is what makes this departure so emotional.
A great play-by-play announcer becomes something larger than a broadcaster. He becomes part of the soundtrack of people’s lives. Fans remember where they were for a game-winning drive or a playoff-clinching victory, and often the call itself becomes inseparable from the memory. The voice becomes part of the experience.
Thank you to Michael Bidwill and the Arizona Cardinals for a rewarding 24-year journey with the organization. That chapter comes to a close as I transition into an expanded and exclusive role with ESPN.

That’s why so many Cardinals fans are feeling a mix of sadness and appreciation. The timing also reflects something important about sports, as excellence creates opportunities. After 24 years of building credibility, trust, and respect in Arizona, the move to ESPN represents national recognition for work that local fans have appreciated for decades.

For the Cardinals organization, replacing a broadcaster with that level of familiarity won’t be easy. Generations of fans grew up hearing his calls during some of the franchise’s most significant moments. That connection cannot be recreated overnight. Yet the overwhelming reaction from fans reveals something special. While many are disappointed to see him leave, there is also genuine pride in seeing one of Arizona’s own earn a larger stage.
