Ring of Honor member Bridget Pettis attends Valley Suns’ Phoenix Mercury night

PHOENIX- On Friday, Bridget Pettis, a Phoenix Mercury Ring of Honor member, attended the Valley Suns game, which the night was dedicated to the Phoenix Mercury as a part of Women’s History Month.

Pettis was one of the original players of the Phoenix Mercury franchise. She competed for six seasons before the team retired her jersey number. During the team’s inaugural season in 1997, she scored the first points in its history.

After retiring from professional basketball, Pettis served as an assistant coach for the Mercury for four seasons and contributed to the team’s success in winning the WNBA Championships in 2007 and 2009.

Players of the Valley Suns wore the original jerseys of the Phoenix Mercury from their inaugural season in 1997 during the loss to the Capital City GoGo with a score of 113-112. Guard Jaden Shackelford led the team with 34 points, five rebounds and six assists in the loss.
