Ketel Marte’s recent Instagram reset was no different, sparking widespread speculation among Diamondbacks fans that Arizona could be preparing to move its All-Star second baseman.

That speculation should end there. According to Arizona sports insider John Gambadoro, the Diamondbacks are not planning to trade Marte. More importantly, it would make little sense to do so.

Arizona remains firmly in the National League Wild Card race, and championship contenders rarely subtract one of their most productive hitters in the middle of a postseason chase. Marte isn’t simply another veteran bat in the lineup. He’s the offensive engine that lengthens the order, forces opposing pitchers into difficult decisions, and creates opportunities for everyone hitting around him. His impact extends far beyond statistics.

Inside the clubhouse, Marte has become one of the franchise’s unquestioned leaders. Younger players have watched him grow from an underrated acquisition into one of baseball’s premier switch-hitters, setting the standard through consistency and professionalism. Those qualities become even more valuable as playoff pressure intensifies. Trading Marte would also send the wrong message to both the clubhouse and the fan base. Organizations spend years trying to identify cornerstone players who can define an era. Arizona already has that foundation with Marte and Corbin Carroll. Breaking up that core while competing for October baseball would undermine both the present and the future.

Every contender reaches moments when outside noise challenges the organization’s direction. The Diamondbacks’ response should be simple: ignore the speculation, trust the roster they’ve built, and continue chasing the postseason. Sometimes the smartest deadline move isn’t making a blockbuster trade; it’s refusing to part with the player who gives you your best chance to win.
