It’s not an abundantly large fraternity in terms of number of NFL athletes settling down with soccer players; however, a current Arizona Cardinal did add a new member to the group over the weekend.
Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson got married to Portland Thorns forward Sophia Smith on Saturday.

The couple took to social media Monday to announce their union. Their teams made sure to congratulate them soon after.
The Thorns posted the couples’ wedding photo on X Tuesday with the tweet: “Congratulations to the newlyweds @sophsssmith and Michael!
The Cardinals followed up on Wednesday with a picture repost and shout of of their own. Arizona tweeted: “reminder that they are the dream team.”

Smith won a gold medal with the USWNT at the 2024 Paris Olympics this past summer. She was the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NWSL Draft. She has played for the Thorn for the entirety of her career. The Thorn were knocked out of the opening round of the last season’s playoffs. She led the team in goals (12) and assists (6).
Wilson finished fourth on the team in receiving touchdowns with four scoring grabs. His 47 total receptions for 548 yards were third on the team. He was drafted in the third round by Arizona in 2023.
