Injury doesn’t keep Sun Devils’ Jordyn Tyson out top position rankings

Arizona State Football redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jordyn Tyson’s season was cut short before the biggest games of the Sun Devils’ season, but it didn’t stop everyone from realizing how great Tyson was this year.

The wide receiver was named to the AP All-American Second Team and won the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, breaking out as redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt‘s favorite target. His inaugural season as a Sun Devil revealed him to be one of college football’s best pass catchers. Many expect him to be even better this season.

Tyson was projected No. 3 on CBS Sports and 247sports college football’s top 10 wide receivers for the 2025 season.

Tyson is in elite company being considered with some of the most electric players in college football — and some that haven’t even played a college game yet.

The redshirt sophomore falls in behind freshmen Jeremiah Smith of Ohio State and Ryan Williams of Alabama. Smith took the No. 1 spot as the lead receiver for the College Football Playoff National Champion. He was named First Team All-American his true freshman season to tag along with his B1G Conference Freshman and Wide Receiver of the Year honors. Williams earned Freshman Team All-American and First Team All-SEC honors in his rookie season with the Tide. They were two of three freshman to make the list. Auburn’s Cam Coleman was the last at No. 8.

The college football veteran is even being ranked with someone who hasn’t played a down of college football.

Oregon incoming freshman Dakorien Moore is the No. 1 high school senior wide receiver in the country. Moore showed what was coming to college football next season with a punt return touchdown at the Under Armour All-America Game and followed up with a spectacular one-handed touchdown grab in the Polynesian Bowl.

Tyson may not receive the same notoriety as his fellow younger receivers, but he deserves just as much respect. After missing the Big 12 Championship and College Football Playoff loss that he could’ve made a big difference in, best believe the redshirt sophomore’s name will ring through television sets, too.

Read what 247’s Brad Crawford wrote about Tyson:

“Jordyn Tyson could move into 2026 NFL Draft first-round billing if his career development continues at this stratospheric rate for the Sun Devils. He was the alpha in the passing game for the Big 12 champions this fall and was unstoppable in November, recording 44 catches for 624 yards and six touchdowns over five games — all wins. Unfortunately, an injury kept him out of the Big 12 title game and College Football Playoff, but he’s back for 2025.”
