The Associated Press’ All-American first-team, second-team and third-team were revealed, with running back Cam Skattebo named on the first-team and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson making the second.

Skattebo and Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty (Boise State) were named the two running backs who cracked the highly-acclaimed first team. Falling just short of receiving an invite to New York, the ASU senior was No. 5 in Heisman voting behind Jeanty, Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter, Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Miami quarterback Cam Ward.

Establishing himself as one of the top college football players in the country, Skattebo rushed 16 times for 170 yards, averaging 10.6 yards per carry in the 45-19 blowout victory over Iowa State to claim the Big 12 title. Scoring three touchdowns, he also added 38 receiving yards for a total of 208 scrimage yards.

Overall, Skattebo has accumalated 1,568 rushing yards from 263 carries this year and is approaching program history. The California native only needs 74 more to pass Eno Benjamin’s single-season record of 1,642 set back in 2018. Benjamin played 13 games and finished with exactly 300 carries that year while Skattebo has competed in 12 games with 37 less carries.

Not making the first-team, Tyson was beat out by receivers Nick Nash (San Jose State), Tetairoa McMillan (Arizona) and Xavier Restrepo (Miami). The second-team wideout group consisted of Heisman winner Hunter, Tre Harris (Ole Miss) and Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State).

In his first year at ASU after transferring from Colorado, Tyson instantly developed a strong connection and chemistry instantly with quarterback Sam Leavitt. Before suffering a season-ending undisclosed injury in the Territorial Cup against Arizona, the redshirt sophomore finished the season with 75 receptions for 1,101 yards and 14 touchdowns.

ASU Sun Devils quarterback Sam Leavitt (10) celebrates his touchdown run with teammate Jordyn Tyson (0) against the Mississippi State Bulldogs at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe on Sept. 7, 2024.

Both Skattebo and Tyson were name to the All-Big 12 first-team by the conference.

ASU still have two weeks of preparation before the Sun Devils head to Atlanta, Ga. for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2025. Arizona State will face the winner Saturday’s game between No. 5 Texas and No. 12 Clemson at 2 p.m. MST.
