The movie was released on Jan. 16, displaying a cinematic reenactment of Arizona native and one-legged college wrestling national champion Anthony Robles‘ life. It edged out Taken trilogy star Liam Neeson’s In the Land of Saints and Sinners and Fall Guy with Ryan Gosling for the No. 1 movie spot in the country. It is No. 3 overall behind series On Call and Beast Games.

Unstoppable is a biopic, chronicling the obstacle-ridden life of Robles on and off the mat. After Robles, played by actor Jharrel Jerome (Moonlight, When They See Us),  failing to earn the Division I scholarship that he wanted despite winning a national championship at Mesa High School, the inspirational grappler walked-on to Arizona State’s wrestling team where he was met with even more battles. The dramatization depicts the ebbs and flows of proving himself as a wrestler and figuring out how to manage a disturbing home life with his siblings and mother, played by pop star Jennifer Lopez.

Robles’ story invokes motivation and determination, giving viewers signs of hope and reasons to never give up.

His story was one known well around The Valley and wrestling world. Now that Unstoppable is No. 1 on Prime in America, Robles has a bigger platform to inspire the country.
