The Washington Commanders will be be without running back Austin Ekeler for Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dan Quinn told reporters today.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Ekeler suffered the injury in the third quarter of the Commanders’ 38-33 Monday Night Football win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Commanders (2-1) traveled straight to Arizona after the win over the Bengals, but Ekeler did not join them.

Ekeler, who signed a one-year deal with Washington over the summer after seven seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, had three rushes for 35 yards and a touchdown, as well as a 62-yard kickoff return on Monday. For the year, he has 13 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown, as well as nine catches for 121 yards.
Quinn added that the Commanders would miss Ekeler’s “general playmaking ability. Very few people have the chance to take a checkdown for 5 or 6 yards and it ends up 20 yards. He brings a lot to the team in terms of energy, what he brings to the return side. We’ll miss him, no doubt. … It’s up to other people to step up around his position.” (via ESPN’s John Keim)

Quinn also ruled out defensive end Clelin Ferrell (knee).
Brian Robinson Jr. has been the lead back for Washington this season, rushing 45 times for 206 yards and two touchdowns. However, the Commanders like to pair Robinson and Ekeler together and will now rely on Jeremy McNichols to fill some of Ekeler’s absence.
Washington enters Sunday’s matchup having scored on every offensive possession over the last two weeks under new offensive coordinator and former Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury.
