MINNEAPOLIS — Kyler Murray isn’t letting anything said in Arizona affect him as he moves on to the next chapter of his career with the Minnesota Vikings.

The former Arizona Cardinals quarterback spoke to the media Tuesday after being named the starting quarterback for Minnesota, where one reporter asked him about head coach Mike LaFleur’s comments. The reporter asked Murray how he felt about the organization moving on from him at the “prime of his career” and whether that would motivate him this season.
Murray kept it blunt.

“I’m honestly not too worried about what’s going on over there,” Murray said. “Focused on what I got going on here in Minnesota. I’m glad to be here. Loved every part of being here and focused on the future.”
His response reflected his focus on starting fresh rather than dwelling on what went wrong in Arizona.

One of the major storylines heading into the NFL offseason was Murray’s future in the Valley and whether the front office would let him go — a decision it made on March 11 after seven seasons with Arizona. It closed the book on the tenure of one of the most polarizing players in franchise history.
Murray quickly landed with the Vikings, signing a one-year contract and entering a quarterback competition with J.J. McCarthy. Now, he has another chance to establish himself as a long-term quarterback and prove what he can still do in the NFL.

It wasn’t an easy path through the organization for the former No. 1 overall pick. Injuries, inconsistency and a lack of build-around him couldn’t fully push forward for a total rebuild as the organization had envisioned when he was drafted. Fans had always been split on him, unsure whether to give him another chance or move past him.
Even now, no longer with the organization, fans and critics still tie him to his time in Arizona and whether a change of scenery would indeed get him to be the quarterback many envisioned he’d be on his draft night.
It’s clear that, for Murray, it’s not a thought in his mind. The noise away from his current home isn’t something he dwells on.
Before the start of the 2026 season, Murray’s message is simple: Arizona is in the past, and Minnesota is where his focus is now.
