According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the former Cardinal landed the Minnesota Vikings’ starting quarterback role for the 2026 season, choosing him over J.J. McCarthy. The news online came with a flurry of reactions from both Arizona and Minnesota fans as both teams prepare to begin a new chapter in their respective franchises.
For Cardinals fans, this is more than just a former player finding a new home. It is another opportunity to see whether Murray can succeed outside of Arizona and potentially change how fans view his time with the Cardinals.

Since being selected first overall in 2019, Murray was expected to be the centerpiece of a rebuild. He established himself as a dynamic dual-threat quarterback, but injuries, inconsistency and the Cardinals’ inability to build sustained success around him eventually changed that relationship.
Arizona decided to part ways with Murray at the end of the 2025 season, allowing him to venture out and find his next chapter. That chapter landed him in Minnesota, where he now enters the season as the starting quarterback.

Supporters who followed Murray during his time in the Valley see his opportunity with the Vikings as bringing different opinions about what comes next. The former Cardinal enters this season with something to prove, not only to Minnesota but also to those who watched his career unfold in Arizona.
If he flourishes, Cardinals fans may wonder whether the franchise moved on too quickly or failed to put its former quarterback in the right environment. If he struggles, supporters will have another piece of evidence that moving forward was necessary.
