After 13 years and four NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors, Thompson was dealt away in a sign-and-trade to the Dallas Mavericks earlier this week.

Thompson had a lengthy message to the Bay Area under a slideshow of numerous posts with him and the Warriors, including a photo with Durant celebrating in the locker room after winning the 2017 NBA Finals.

Thompson wrote:

“Oh Bay Area, there are not enough words and images to convey how I really feel about yall. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the best times of my life. It was such an honor to put that Dubs jersey on from day 1. I really just wanted to be the best I could be and help bring as many championships as possible to the region. The best part was not the rings though, it was the friendships I made that will last a lifetime. My family and I would like to thank all of the amazing people who work tirelessly to make the @warriors organization world-class. Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened. Until we meet again. Sea captain out #foureverchamps #splashbros4life #oaklandforever”

“A Bay Area God,” Durant commented. “One chapter closes, another one opens. Keep doing u champ.”

After Durant made one of the biggest moves in NBA history by signing with Golden State in 2016, he spent three seasons with the Warriors and Thompson, cementing his legacy in their dynasty by winning two championships and Finals MVP in 2017 and 2018.

Thompson, Draymond Green and Stephen Curry were the longest-tenured current players with one team across the entire NBA before this trade. Green, Curry and Kevon Looney are now the only players left in Golden State from the Warriors’ championships with both Durant and Thompson.

A new chapter awaits the 34-year-old Thompson in Dallas.
