The Suns entered last week’s draft with no second-round picks. They traded back from their original No. 22 pick to No. 28 with the Denver Nuggets and also received the No. 56 pick, as well as Denver’s 2026 and 2031 second-round picks. Phoenix then packaged the No. 56 pick and a protected 2028 second-round pick from the Boston Celtics to move up to No. 40 to select Ighodaro, who was exactly who they wanted all along.
The 6-foot-10 Ighodaro played his high school basketball at Desert Vista in Phoenix, where he was rated as 247 Sports’ No. 81 overall prospect and No. 5 in Arizona in the 2020 class.
Ighodaro, 21, started 36 games in each of the last two seasons for the Golden Eagles. He averaged a career-best 13.4 points on 57.6% shooting and 6.9 rebounds to go along with 1.3 blocks and 1.1 steals at Marquette last season. He was an All-Big East Second Team selection the last two seasons.
