After announcing on Monday that he was going to make his college decision on Tuesday, La Cueva (N.M.) High School and New Mexico’s reigning Gatorade Player of the Year Cameron Dyer committed to Arizona State.

Taking a recent official visit over the past weekend, Dyer decided that the Sun Devils’ program is the one for him amidst a plethora of other colleges showing interest and sending offers. The quarterback also had offers from New Mexico State, New Mexico, Texas Tech, Utah, Utah State, UTEP, Louisiana-Monroe and Arkansas State among others.

247Sports ranks him as a three-star recruit and the No. 3 best high school football player in New Mexico. Dyer has finished his junior year at La Cueva standing at 6-foot-4, 202 pounds.

Guiding the Bears to a 10-3 record and winning the 6A state championship last year, he threw for 2,897 yards, 29 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while rushing for 1,492 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Once he does arrive in Tempe, there are rumblings of Dyer transitioning to wide receiver at the next level.

According to 247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks’ scouting report on Dyer, he is an intriguing player to watch heading into his final year in high school.

“Three-sport standout with encouraging track and field data, especially 22+ long jump ability, plus combination of sport-specific skill and functional athleticism on the basketball court,” Brooks said. “That athleticism translates in pads. Dynamic run threat at QB. Displays impressive redirecting suddenness relative to taller, lankier build. Passing mechanics and footwork are still works in progress, but flashes big downfield arm strength and requisite velocity. Regularly extends plays outside the pocket and presents a true dual threat as a scrambler.

“Lacks ideal game context regarding WR projection, but appears to possess the needed physical tools and functional athleticism to make the transition if desired. P4-caliber prospect who could potentially live at QB or receiver in the long term thanks to impressive combination of physical specs, multi-sport profile, and on-field context. Those attributes also could provide high developmental upside at multiple positions.”

In the span of three days in a row, ASU has had back-to-back-to-back commitments. Centennial (Calif.) High School’s Cory Butler committed to Arizona State on Sunday and Dallastown (Pa.) Area High School wide receiver Michael Scott also did so before Dyer.

Dyer’s commitment is the 17th for the ASU in the class of 2025, which is 247SportsNo. 13 best class in the nation.
