After sweeping the Phoenix Suns in the first round and now defeating the defending-champion Denver Nuggets, the Minnesota Timberwolves have stunned everyone to advance to the Western Conference Finals.

Minnesota came back from down as much as 20 to win Game 7 on the road, defying all odds after being down 3-2. In their third road victory of the series, Anthony Edwards struggled, going 6-of-24 from the field, but Jaden McDaniels and Karl Anthony-Towns led the way with 23 points apiece.

The Timberwolves dominated Games 1 and 2 on the road to take a 2-0 series lead, but then the Nuggets rattled off three straight wins to make it seem all but over for Minnesota.
But, as Suns fans saw in the first round, the Timberwolves had no quit in them no matter any circumstance.
Now, Minnesota, the No. 3 seed, will take on Luka Doncic and the No. 5 Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals beginning on Wednesday (May 22). The winner of this series will take on the winner of the Boston Celtics vs. Indiana Pacers Eastern Conference Finals series, which begins on Tuesday (May 22).
The team that beat the Suns in the 2024 playoffs has defeated the team that beat the Suns in the 2023 playoffs and will advance to play the team that beat the Suns in the 2022 playoffs.

This is only the Timberwolves’ second conference finals appearance in franchise history. Their only other time in the conference finals was in the 2003-04 season, when the Los Angeles Lakers beat them in six games to advance to the NBA Finals, where they were stunned by the Detroit Pistons.
